After Railay beach we decided to head to Ton Sai Beach (just a 20 minute jungle trek over a hill, known for being a "mecca" for rock climbers) but unfortunately the night before we decided to switch locations it began to rain relentlessly, and by relentlessly I mean the rain was loud enough to wake us up all through the night. The only rain I had experienced here had been of the tropical variety, raining for a maximum of three hours and then passing on... this was not the case here. It did lighten up enough for us to get to Ton Sai Beach and get checked into a new room but after raining all night again we decided it wouldn't make for the best conditions to learn how to rock climb. The rain did however provide a delightful accompaniment on the tin roof as we got a massage. The next day we decided to move to Ko Phi Phi in hopes that there would be no rain there. The picture below was taken at Ton Sai Beach outside the bathroom of a restaurant we ate at. No camera tricks here, this was by far the biggest wild spider either of us had ever seen, and it spun a bright yellow web.
The next morning we decided to try our luck elsewhere and head to Ko Phi Phi. As luck would have it we met a man named Jim from upstate New York at breakfast who had just come from Ko Phi Phi and gave us all the info on how to avoid "what young Leo was trying to get away from" (his words) and directed us towards Long Beach, just a five minute longtail boat ride or a 40 minute walk away from the main town.
Here we are on the longtail boat puling away from Ko Phi Phi town.
A picture standing on Long Beach looking at some longtail boats.
A picture of me with part of Ko Phi Phi Don (the big island) to the right of me and part of Ko Phi Phi Leh (the small island) to the left of me.
And here is our first dinner at Long Beach. After we enjoyed our fresh prawns and Thai curry we collaborated on a pen and ink doodle drawing accompanied by coconuts and Chang (the beer to drink in Thailand). We drew under the idea of "taking your pen for a walk" and not thinking about what to draw but just drawing. This is the result...
The next morning Hadley used her jet-lagged powers and got up earlier than me and went for a sunrise walk on the beach and took these pictures...
